How To Clean Commercial Glassware

Maintaining glassware is an essential part of hospitality. Glasses can develop unwanted odours and grease or water marks when they aren't washed or dried correctly, impacting the quality of your drinks service and guest experience. Using the correct techniques to care for and clean your glassware will increase lifespan and ensure your drinks are represented best. Washing Glassware

By Hand

Although washing glasses by hand is often a more time-consuming process, it allows you to inspect your glassware thoroughly. Checking for any chips, cleaning correctly, and reducing the potential for breakages that can be caused by improper use of glasswashers.

  1. Ensure your sink is adequately clean, reducing the risk of dirt or debris transferring to your glassware. Check out our range of cleaning chemicals
  2. Control the water temperature.
  3. Use a suitable washing up liquid and warm water with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Consider using Proton Renovate® should bi-monthly or when the water break test shows it is needed to ensure pristine glassware and a perfect pour on beverages.
  4. Ensure the glass is cleaned correctly and carefully.
  5. Allow your glassware to dry or hand dry with a suitable cloth.
  6. After the glass is dry, remove any remaining water marks or fingerprints with a microfibre cloth.

In a Glasswasher

Glasswashers are ideal for busy bars, pubs, restaurants and hotels, ensuring a speedy turnaround on clean glassware, and producing professional results when used correctly. Always check that the glasses are glasswasher safe.

  1. Pre-rinse your glassware to remove any debris or dirt from the glasses.
  2. Carefully place glassware, face down, in a glass rack to reduce cracks, chips and shattering.
  3. Choose your desired cycle and ensure the correct rinse aid or glasswasher chemical.
  4. Once the glasswasher cycle is complete, open the door to let the steam disappear and reduce the risk of burn injuries.
  5. When the glasswasher has cooled, carefully remove the glass rack and allow it to drain fully before storing.
