Front of House Spring Cleaning

Before starting to clean, it's essential to ensure you have the correct cleaning supplies. This should include a hooverbroom and dustpanmop and bucket, sponges, cloths, dusters and cleaning chemicals. Check out our colour-coded cleaning guide for more advice!

1) Dining Areas

Deep cleaning your restaurant dining area will ensure hygiene standards are maintained and guests enjoy their dining experience. Be sure to check restaurant furniture for any signs of wear and tear.

  • Wipe down, clean and polish all dining tables and chairs (including underneath them). Ensure they are structurally sound.
  • Mop and deep clean all floors and carpets. Target spills and stains first, then use an extraction cleaner.
  • Clean all signage, fans, and light fixtures around your dining area.
  • Ensure sparkling windows with our range of glass cleaners, remove dirt and grime from windows and let the light shine through to your restaurant.
  • Launder curtains, linen and window dressings.

2) Bar and Stockroom

A thorough cleaning of bar areas and stockrooms will ensure your appliances are appropriately maintained, bar supplies are stocked up and expiry dates have been checked.

  • Empty and clean all fridges and reach-in coolers. Wipe down all surfaces, including drink shelves, fridges, and beer taps.
  • Pull out fridges/machines and sweep and clean behind.
  • Sanitise and clean the keg lines.
  • Dust and remove cobwebs in high, hard-to-reach areas such as above fridges, a high-level cleaning tool is ideal for dusting.
  • Polish silverware and draught taps
  • Power wash floor mats

3) Bathrooms

Make sure you have the correct cleaning chemicals to efficiently and effectively deep clean washrooms, killing germs and bacteria. Your restaurant washrooms should be checked and cleaned every hour. Remember to clean 'touch points' like handles, switches and faucets, which are bacteria-prone.

  • Wipe down and disinfect bathroom sinks, including faucets, handles, and drains.
  • Wash down the walls, mirrors, countertops, and bathroom doors.
  • Clean the inside and outside of the toilet bowl. Disinfect, wipe, and dry the remaining parts of the toilet. Focus on the handle, both sides of the lid, each side of the seat, and the tank's exterior.
  • Clean the floor and grout.
  • Change out and clean soap dispensers. Make sure they are functioning properly.
  • Replenish and clean the towel dispensers and hand dryers.

Back of House Spring Cleaning

Deep cleaning kitchen equipment, checking fire safety protocols are up to date and in place and replenishing staff uniforms and team areas like break rooms/locker rooms.

1) The Kitchen

Ensuring all surfaces are free from dirt or grease and kitchen equipment is regularly cleaned and maintained is essential. Be sure to clean down or replace broken bins.

  • Clean the walls, particularly behind your kitchen equipment. This is a prime place for dirt, dust, and debris to accumulate.
  • Clean and inspect cups, forks, knives, plates and other dishes and utensils.
  • Clean and sanitise fridges and freezers.
  • Wipe down and dust all storage shelves and pantries.
  • Sanitise all kitchen surfaces.
  • Descale your dish and glassware washers using a descaling product.

2) Cooker Hood

  • Clean off exhaust filters.
  • Empty the grease catch and wipe away residue.
  • Prepare water and degreaser to clean grease traps and filters– ensure you use the correct ratio.
  • Check the degreaser for the appropriate ratio.
  • Air dry before reinstalling.
  • Polish all stainless steel surfaces with microfiber cloths to avoid damaging the stainless steel exterior.

3) Fryer and Grill

  • Your fryer and grill can become a fire hazard if too much grease builds up.
  • Unplug the appliance and drain the oil into a bowl to avoid clogging
  • Remove the baskets, filters, hangers and tank racks to clean separately.
  • Wipe out the interior surface with paper towels to ensure that the final remnants of oil are absorbed.
  • Use a wet sponge and warm soapy water to cleanse the inside of the fryer, taking care not to get the outside of the appliance wet as this can cause damage.
  • Use a grill stone to lift hardened residue from grills.

Outside the Restaurant

When spring cleaning outside restaurants or pubs, paying particular attention to the patio and beer garden is a must. These areas can get dirty during winter with debris from fallen leaves or branches and general wear from guests coming in and out.

To Dos

  • Wipe down all furniture and check for any damages.
  • Power wash or mop the patio floor, depending on the surface.
  • Dust off and clean any fans or heaters on the patio
  • Finally, adding flower pots filled with bright blooms brings this area alive.
